T-shirt Printing For Beginners

This is a great way to learn the basics of screen printing and to have fun printing your own t-shirt.

We hold classes for only 1-3 participants, and like to keep the program flexible and informal. Questions are encouraged throughout so we can tailor the information to each students interests.

Each class goes for about 4 hours.

Overview

  1. First off, you will be introduced to our stellar cast of t-shirt printing equipment, including the trusty carousel, our ever-faithful flash cure unit, as well as everybody’s favourites – the squeegees.
  2. You then settle in to hear a thorough rundown of the fundamentals of screen printing, including film positive production and alternative methods of creating a stencil. You will gain an understanding of the steps involved in getting your design to print , using photographic emulsion.
  3. Take in a screen coating demonstration. Have a go of it yourself - if you dare. Next, see how we can remove the stencil and reuse the screen.
  4. We’ll don aprons for a quick ink tutorial (we use water based inks), before launching into a practice printing session.
  5. Time to register your film positive to a screen, ready for exposure. Witness the power of light as your design magically appears on the screen. You are not far away from seeing your finished t-shirt now.
  6. After a quick dry out, you will tape up your screen, select an ink colour and test your mastery of the carousel as you print your very own t-shirt. Wow! So Quick! After a good shot of heat, the ink is cured and you’re ready to hit the town in your flash new tee.

Other Points of Interest

  • The course is held at our backyard workshop in High Wycombe, Western Australia.
  • Aprons are provided. You should still take care to dress appropriately as this is textile ink we are talking about. If it gets on your clothes, it’s not coming off.
  • Dates and times can be arranged upon inquiry, subject to availability.
  • The course fee covers whatever it takes for you to go home with a one colour t-shirt print.
  • Designs are restricted to A4 in size unless otherwise arranged.
  • Course fee includes one t-shirt for you to print onto (we have a range of sizes and colours available, but cannot guarantee availability of any particular size/style/colour). You can bring up to 3 of your own extra t-shirts, so you can share your design with your family and friends and ensure you get exactly the t-shirt you want. (T-shirts should be cotton or a natural fibre, stretchy shirts not ideal.)
  • You also get to keep your film positive and test prints.
  • Artwork is required prior to course date. Can be scanned from hard copy or computer files saved as .pdf, .ai, .psd, etc and sent via email.

COST

  • $100.00 for one person
  • $190.00 for two people
  • $270.00 for three people

That’s a pretty good deal to get up to 4 customised t-shirts that you not only designed, but printed too.
